Young hands and minds have restored sections of the Mt York heritage precinct in the Blue Mountains, seeing a six-month Green Corps project to the end in April.
‘It was very physical work and they (graduates) have been absolute champions about it’, said coordinator Steve Fleischmann.
The Blue Mountains City Council, Central Tablelands Heritage Lands Trust and Job Futures combined their resources to create the project. Work involved installing erosion control devices, constructing formal tracks to lookouts, revegetating degenerated areas and building stone walls.
Ten Blue Mountains residents in their late teens received graduation certificates from Member for Macquarie Kerry Bartlett.
Green Corps graduate Adrian Walton said apart from the great views at the workplace on top of the escarpment, the best thing about the Mt York heritage project was the people he met.
