Protecting Albany’s Ecosystems and Cultural Heritage; a community approach |
The purpose of this project is the preservation of cultural heritage and environmental assets within the Albany region. Activities participants will undertake include learning of consultation and engagement with traditional owners, learning about the archaeology of South West Australia, field surveying and monitoring, mapping and navigation, identifying natural and human induced impacts/threats to heritage places, construction of signage, weed control, fencing and erosion control. |

Fremantle to Bayswater: Educating youth in urban recreational management |
This project addresses environmental degradation at a number of Bayswater and Fremantle sites. The team will be exposed to recreational access control methods including revegetation activities (propagation, seed collection and site preparation), impact control techniques (installing water bars, trail brushing), plant recognition (through the creation of native and introduced plant species Herbariums), site assessment and remedial actions planning, threat abatement and basic infrastructure construction. |

This project will give a varied range of work experience in the areas of river restoration, wetland revegetation, remnant vegetation management, construction, nursery work, macro-invertebrate sampling and stormwater management. Specific activities include seedling and cutting propagation, re-potting and hygiene practices, weed control, revegetation in coastal dunes, bushland, riparian and wetland areas, fencing, stabilisation of waterways, management of tree decline, formalising walk trails, stormwater management, macro-invertebrate sampling, Western Ringtail Possum habitat assessment and population surveys, seed collection and processing, river health assessment training, and green waste and other rubbish removal from remnant vegetation and wetlands. |

Rockingham Nature Reserves: A Quest to Protect & Preserve |
This project will bring community groups and natural resource management organisations together to achieve vital on-ground environmental improvement. Participants will aim to provide protection of habitat for Critically Endangered Ecological Communities, increase biodiversity of nature reserves and work toward the rehabilitation of the Regional Park system. Activities include propagating seedlings, weeding using manual and chemical means, fencing off areas to prevent unauthorised access, constructing walking trails, installing interpretive signage and assisting with artwork incorporating indigenous cultural symbolism. |
