CVA Kingscote Kangaroo Island NRM- Supporting Youth & Community for a sustainable future By achieving strategically valued environmental outcomes, it is planned that this project will provide local youths in Kangaroo Island with essential and desirable skills sought by local employers, and a greater understanding of the economic and environmental issues the island will face in its future. The main objective of this project involves the implementation of rehabilitation strategies. Activities the participant will participate in include revegetation, fencing, seeding, erosion mitigation techniques, weed control, water quality monitoring and bush regeneration activities.
Greening Australia Lynton Depot Beagle Tce Lynton Mitcham Hills: Biodiversity Protection and Sustainable Recreation Project The purpose of this project is to provide sustainable experiences for the community (walking, mountain biking and horse riding) while protecting conservation values of the reserves. This has come about in part due to the unauthorised mountain bike riding in Mitcham reserves, which has caused significant environmental degradation. Activities include seed collection, nursery work, weed control, revegetation, track construction and maintenance, interpretive signage development, community education and interaction with project stakeholders.
Greening Australia Monarto Monarto Zoo: Heritage and habitat restoration This project is proposed to assist the staff at Monarto Zoo in meeting strategic aims for the preservation of remnant vegetation and its increased land coverage through revegetation in the park. This will enhance future opportunities for biodiversity as well as provide an educational resource for future users of the park, leading to greater awareness of threatened Mallee habitat. The activities include weed control, revegetation, installation of rabbit proof fence, seed collection and propagation, biological surveys, recording of onsite heritage, sorting fallen building material and conducting historical research.
Greening Australia Osborne Project Dolphin Safe: Mutton Cove’s Restoration & Revegetation The aim of this project is to protect the environment of Mutton Cove, which affects the waters of Torrens Island where Project Dolphin Safe work rehabilitating injured marine animals. The activities participants will engage in include site induction, surveying native flora and fauna, plant propagation, weed control and habitat restoration.
Greening Australia Salisbury East Cobblers Creek: Habitat Enhancement & Trail Project This project follows the construction of gabions for the safety of the dam at Cobbler Creek Recreation Park. The purpose of this project is to protect and enhance the natural character of the project area through the restoration of habitats, erosion controls, provision of trails and crossings, wildlife monitoring and community engagement. Project activities include soil, water, flora and fauna surveying, weed control, plant propagation, construction of boxes for native fauna and construction and maintenance of walking trails.
Greening Australia Willunga Willunga Basin: better catchments and land management The primary purpose of this project is twofold - to serve as an example of effective youth development and environmental education in Adelaide’s peri-urban south, and secondly, to serve as effective environmental management project integrating local environmental initiatives in line with the regional needs. Participants will engage in community ventures, researching, seed collection, native plant propagation, watercourse learning and management, habitat and vegetation learning and management, plant identification, fencing, community facility enhancements, eco trail design, building and continuations, and environmental surveys, monitoring and mapping.
Mission Australia Goolwa Coastal Care at Alexandrina This project will address environmental issues in coastal areas on public and crown land under the care and control of the Alexandrina Council. Activities include construction of community gardens, implementation of interpretative signage at an Indigenous meeting place, a visit to Camp Coorong to develop cross cultural understandings, fencing to assist with containing erosion, protection of dunes, laying brush and dead Boxthorn in dunes to assist with sand dune drift control, removal of introduced weeds using methods such as cut and swab, hand pulling and spraying, bird surveys and water monitoring, construction of chain and timber boardwalks on coastal areas, closure of tracks to minimise human impact, remedial works to revegetate sites with local provenance species, nursery maintenance, propagation, germination, seed collection, storage, labelling and revegetation.
Mission Australia Bedford Park Caring for Tjibruke The Kaurna community aims to establish consistency throughout the Tjilbruke Trail, installing interpretative signage, maintaining the integrity of their cultural back ground, preserving South Australian heritage, and educating the broader community. Participants will undertake a range of activities including design and implementation of an interpretative signage on the trail, bird surveys, closure of tracks and redirection of human traffic, fencing, water quality monitoring, raising environmental and cultural awareness of particular sites, remedial works to revegetate sites with local provenance species, erosion control, nursery maintenance and associated activities including propagation, germination, maintenance, seed collection, storage, labelling and revegetation using best practices, and threat abatement control.
Mission Australia Hahndorf Restoration of Remnant Vegetation at The Cedars Hahndorf This project aims to improve and restore the environmental and cultural heritage value of The Cedars property at Hahndorf. Through achieving this, participants will be improving the biodiversity of the ecosystem of this culturally significant site. Activities will include benching and levelling at industry standards in areas of need, weed removal and control, collection, storage and propagation of seeds, plant surveys, construction and installation of nesting boxes, and the improvement an Historic Artists Walk.
