Green Corps

About us

Green Corps is an Australian Government youth development and environmental training program for young people aged between 17 and 20 years. Green Corps provides young people with the opportunity to volunteer their time and effort to conserve, preserve and restore Australia’s natural environment and cultural heritage.

The aims of Green Corps are to:

  • provide high quality, genuine environmental outcomes, which aid in the conservation, protection and restoration of Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage
  • provide youth development opportunities for young Australians, including improved employment and educational outcomes
  • promote connections between young Australians and their communities.

Green Corps is administered by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) in consultation with the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA). Green Corps is delivered for the Australian Government by five Green Corps Service Providers.

Since the program began, more than 20,000 young Australians have joined Green Corps projects across Australia; more than 15 million trees have been planted; 8500 kilometres of fencing has been built; and more than 6000 kilometres of walking track has been constructed or maintained. Most Green Corps projects are located in regional or remote areas but there are also opportunities in metropolitan areas.
